Why I Publish What I Ought Perhaps Burn

Some may wonder, what the hell is going on here. Who is this site for? Why? WHY???? For them, I have no good short answer, so a long poor one will have to do. Some people have the drive to do something specific. Something that becomes the brightest star in the sky. Frank Herbert wrote books, Benicio Del Toro acts, and Guillermo del Toro makes movies. All of these people have that drive in that one direction that drives them to greatness.

If you split up that drive into a thousand parts, you would have me. A fraction of magic going in a thousand different directions at the same time... none of which will impress anyone, but when the stars align will do something 'neat'.

This site pulls together all of my interests, wrapped in one bigger single interest.

This site contents is framed in the time and locale of Arkham Rhode Island and the fictional Miskatonic University as introduced by H.P. Lovecraft. Everyone into sci-fi has a passing knowledge of "the Call of Cthulhu", but years ago a very dear friend of mine pushed a collection of Lovecraft's other works into my hands, since then I have been a rabid fan of both his and the idea of cosmic horror as a genre.

I also have a love of writing, but lack the fortitude to continue a long story for long. I love world building (thanks Dungeons & Dragons) and I love really short stories. So combine that with the love of Lovecraft's style and you see the impetus to write titles and summaries to fit a short tale in a different world.

This thematic wrapping allows me to bring disparate hobbies and directions together under one web site without seeming discombobulated. I tried that before with my site "Temporal Focus", and again with "Mental Drool". They both became boorish to me after some time. Maybe that is the fate for all I do... that's unsettling.

But maybe that is the adventure... not to stay on one continuous path forever, but to drive off into the brush when it feels right. The work here is not to get followers or pump a career or pad up a resume for interviewing, it's for me. To scratch some creative itch.

Regardless, until I do drive off into the weeds, if you are reading this, I hope you derive some moment of joy from it.
