An image of the new space

This corner, of all the room, was singled out by name in the physician's written instructions, for reasons he did not fully commit to paper — something, he said, about the angle at which the morning light struck it being "most favorable to composure." I have sat here nearly every day since the room's completion, and I record, without being able to account for it, that it is the one place in the entire house where I have not once, since we finished the work, heard the sound I came home listening for.
